To Europe and back!
I have now officially been out of the country! Yay for me. I just returned from a two week tour of the British Isles. It was definately and experience. We flew into Shannon, Ireland and then procedded on to Wales, Scotland, and England in that order. I didn't really care for Ireland but i loved the rest of them! I went with a tour group of 53 people. 98 percent of which were over the age of 60.... we had to make a lot of bathroom stops. But overall it was fun. I saw a lot of things and made some new friends. Some of the things i saw were...
1) lots and lots of cathedrals and old churches
2) the smallest house in the world
3) lots of castles and ruins, including edward longshanks castle
4)Blarney castle where i kissed the blarney stone
5) Windsor castle
6)went on the london eye
7)westminister abbey
8)buckingham palace
9)the trooping of the colors in london, (that's the parade they do for the queens birthday)
10) Glastonbury Abbey (the supposed grave of king arthur)
11) Stone Henge
12) one of the original copies of the magna carta
13) the street in bath where jane austin lived
14) the roman bath in bath
and much much more.
I also learned the people who reside in the UK are a little different from us. For instance they don't believe in having clocks in hotel rooms...or really anywhere else. And since i didn't have a watch on me i never knew what time it was the whole trip. All there clocks are in military time too so even if i could look at one it wouldn't really help me. Also they don't believe in sugar...or salt. They're food in general is pretty good but often bland. and they're pasteries and sweets aren't really...well sweet. They usually don't have salt or pepper on the table and when we asked for ketchup to put on our fries they looked at us like we were sinning. Their bathrooms are usually much nicer than ours. They call chips crisps and fries chips. I actually liked driving on the left side of the road. It didn't bother me at all. I think i actually like it better....Weird i know. Their toilets don't always flush either. That was a pretty consistent and annoying thing. Everyone smokes. My throat hurt the whole time i was over there. But overall i was glad i went and it feels weird being home. I can't wait to go somewhere else like Italy or Spain! I would gladly accept donations. Just look at it as helping a young woman culture herself so she can become a better person and make her more capable to help others. ;)
